A Theravāda Buddhist Monk

Ordained in the Theravāda tradition and trained at Mahamevnawa Meditation Center in Sri Lanka, our monk brings warmth, patience, and years of lived practice to every session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any previous meditation experience?

No. This retreat is designed for both beginners and experienced meditators. Our teacher will guide you step by step, making it easy to follow regardless of your experience.

What should I wear?

Please wear comfortable, modest clothing that allows you to sit and move comfortably. We recommend bringing a light sweater, as the room temperature may vary.

What should I bring?

You only need to bring yourself and a willingness to learn. If you'd like, you may also bring a meditation cushion, yoga mat, water bottle, notebook, and pen. Chairs and meditation cushions will be available.

Will I be sitting on the floor all day?

No. Chairs are available for anyone who prefers them, and you are welcome to meditate in whichever position is most comfortable for you. Our goal is to help you practice comfortably, regardless of your age or physical ability.

Will lunch be provided?

Yes. Lunch is provided with both regular and vegan options, along with light refreshments and tea throughout the day. See the lunch menu above for what's usually served, and please let us know when registering if you have any dietary restrictions.

Is this retreat silent?

This is not a strict silent retreat. While we encourage quiet reflection during meditation sessions, there will also be guided instruction, opportunities to ask questions, and time for discussion with the teacher.

What meditation techniques will I learn?

Throughout the day, you'll be introduced to several meditation practices, including mindfulness of breathing, loving-kindness meditation, walking meditation, and insight meditation. These techniques are practical, beginner-friendly, and suitable for everyday life.

Who will be leading the retreat?

The retreat is led by an experienced Theravada Buddhist monk who has guided thousands of people through meditation retreats and mindfulness programs across the United States.

Can I attend if I'm not Buddhist?

Absolutely. This retreat welcomes people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures. The teachings focus on practical mindfulness and meditation that anyone can benefit from.

Is there an age requirement?

The retreat is recommended for adults and mature teenagers (ages 16+). Younger participants may attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian and are able to participate quietly throughout the sessions.

What if I need to cancel my registration?

Please let us know as soon as possible by emailing info@wisdommeditation.org. This allows us to offer your place to someone on the waiting list.

Can I get a refund if I can't attend?

Because this is a donation-based retreat, donations are non-refundable. However, if you notify us before the retreat, we'll gladly transfer your registration to a future day-long meditation retreat, and you won't need to make another donation.

Disruptive, inappropriate, or disrespectful behavior may result in being asked to leave the retreat without compensation.

Photographs and videos may be taken during the retreat for educational, promotional, and social media purposes. By attending the retreat, you consent to the use of your image in these materials. If you prefer not to appear in photographs or videos, please let a member of our team know upon arrival, and we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Donations & Cancellation Policy

This is a donation-based retreat. Donations are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, please notify us before the retreat by emailing info@wisdommeditation.org. As a courtesy, we will transfer your registration to a future Day-Long Meditation Retreat, and you will not be required to make another donation.
